Dell U.K. Exec: Don’t Read Too Much Into AMD Comments
By Michael Santo

Despite not one, but two different Dell executives speaking about the possibility of AMD CPUs in Dell PCs (Michael Dell and a week later, Kevin Rollins), Josh Claman, UK head of Dell said there’s no deal with AMD in the works, that it’s still just a rumor, and that people need to read less into the remarks.
He also said that Dell would would “never say never” to a deal with AMD, and that:
“I wish I’d invested in AMD stock before the rumour came out.” Source: Silicon.com
We Say: If you read the full article above, the main message was less about AMD and more about cheap PCs and laptops. I guess people still associate AMD CPUs with lower cost, and expect bargain-basement computers to be based on them, and he wanted to be sure it was understood that even if AMD CPUs were in Dell’s computers, they weren’t going to start selling no-frills $150 notebooks. I, as a gamer, associate AMD CPUs with better performance, especially as they relate to gaming. These remarks are disappointing, but I still feel this might be the year when we see a real move here from Dell.

I have used AMD for my last 3 PCs and will soon move to AMD 64X2 I hope. I have long felt that they’re better than Intel and they have managed to squeeze more performance out of their systems at less Mhz - they had hypertransport before Intel had Hyperthreading and the former is better than the latter.
I service many computers and I always recommend upgrading or new buyers to buy AMD
