We posted a story a couple of days ago about the latest rumors of Dell using AMD chips … and analyst opinions on that, as well. A lot of it centered on remarks made by Michael Dell at CES 2006. Today Dell Chief Executive Kevin Rollins continued the pro-AMD stance, by saying he is open to selling computers that run on microprocessors from AMD.

“We’re always open” to making changes, Rollins said. “We want the very best technology for our customers.”

Rollins made the comment to reporters after speaking at a lunch sponsored by the Boston College Chief Executives’ Club. Source: Reuters

We Say: More fuel for the fire definitely. Didn’t affect AMD stock, as it dropped today, along with Intel stock. I have to say I’m happy I have some shares AMD shares. (Emergency disclaimer: this by no means should be considered an endorsement of AMD stock by RTN or any of its representatives)

The Dell-AMD news was already out there a few days ago though. I think the stock dropped yesterday was profit-taking after AMD went up a LOT over the past couple days. BTW, I too own AMD stock. I bought it under $10 :)

You’re right, it was, and I pointed that out, but the point (hope?) is if they weren’t serious, they wouldn’t keep mentioning it. First Michael Dell, then an analyst, now Rollins. This time I think we’re really going to see it happen.
