1,000 Tags: Here Comes Another “Million Dollar Homepage” Idea

Argghhh….that’s the sound of me screaming as I slap my forehead and wonder why I don’t think of these dumb but smart ideas. But there you have it. Some guy built a site called 1,000Tags.com. You can buy a shared tag for anywhere between $25 to $60 or an exclusive tag for an astounding $285 on the word “gadgets.” (I did not fork over the cash, but maybe that was dumb too, who knows.)

Our Take: Sounds like a money maker but will anyone click?

I think its a great idea for exposure. The price is right and depending on future syndication could be a great buy. I tried it.

Fault me for being trusting, but I really think these guys are conducting an experiment of sorts. Charging for the tags is part of the experiment. If they didn’t, it wouldn’t really be testing the commercialization and advertising potential of tag clouds, would it? Now, when the hundred or so imitators appear, they will definitely be in it for the money. Hmmm… maybe I should take tomorrow off and build my own tag cloud site. ;-)

    Hi Alice,

you might want to take a look at our site. I can’t believe the other guys lauched their site a day before ours, anyway, thats the way things go. I think you’ll maybe like our better? It lets you sponsor a tag for 12 months starting at $25 and going up to just $150 for the largest sized tag. The “gadgets” tags is still free at the moment :)

    Thanks,

    ChainedAds.com is nice, however…
It load a bit too slow (maybe is my connection, though I don’t think so)

In google I see that the page has 175k… that’s a lot.
