Podcasting Redefined — Literally

It’s no secret that Creative Labs wants to take on the iPod … and win. Of course, as all with all other iPod rivals, Creative has fallen way short of that goal. Of course, in its arsenal, Creative does have a patent which it says Apple infringed upon. Fresh off CES 2006, it also has the Best in Show award for the Creative Zen Vision:M (which also won Best of CES in the MP3 and Portable Video category). Finally, Creative wants to redefine podcasting … literally.
The word “podcast” — a combination of iPod and broadcast — has become the latest tech term to enter our growing lexicon, being named the 2005 word of the year by the New Oxford American Dictionary. But Creative, unhappy that the word promotes its rival, has redefined podcast as “Personal On Demand broadCast.” Source: BetaNews
We Say: You can’t blame a guy, er, company for trying. Let’s face it, every reference to podcast is like free advertising for Apple. Of course, Creative has also just launched ZENcast, the company’s beta application for downloading video blogs and podcasts. So this all makes sense.
