Geeks Gone Wild… CES Day Two Report

It’s already day 3, but we wanted to give you a rundown on all of the interesting products we saw and announcements we heard. This is a monster of an article that touches on a lot of different vendors, so grab some coffee and get comfortable. In the days and weeks to come, we’ll go into depth on more of these products.
We visited and got the PR spiel from quite a few booths. The Geeks found some interesting gizmos in Kensington, D-link and Logitech and an interesting concept laptop from Dell (not to mention getting kicked out for asking a question about AMD!). Nvidia and ATI were pimping their SLI and Crossfire technologies with no new information except the Dell Quad SLI machine (which won’t be out for months). Benq was disappointing and surprising with a “new age” concept projector. We were able to get geeky in the home automation and control market with HAI, Smarthome and Channel Vision and even scored an in-depth interview with Joe Dada, President and CEO from SmartLabs (Smarthome and INSTEON).

Alice Adds: This is great stuff Chief Gadgeteer. You’ll have to tell us more about geting booted out when you asked about AMD!
Chief Gizmateer Adds: Well, perhaps getting kicked out for asking a question about AMD was a bit too strong of a statement… mostly. While visiting Dell’s CES booth, not Dell’s press suite, the Geeks were discussing “what’s new” with Dell but the only thing Dell was talking about was their Concept PC and mentioned that Nvidia was showing off the Dell XPS 600 extreme gaming machine that wouldn’t be in production for months. Getting bored, I decided to throw out the question: “when will AMD get their chips into Dell’s production line?” At this point the mood of the Dell representative moved to a very serious and annoyed tone and she said, “no one will touch that question here” then she turned and left! Can you say uncomfortable?

I wish AMD would work more on marketing. The financial channels were going on and on about Intel yesterday and the big VIIV(?) announcement. It’s a shame the best processors are ignored while the inferior processors get all the attention.
