AllPeers Extension Adds P2P to Firefox

It’s not even out yet and this Firefox extension has bloggers around the world talking. AllPeers adds P2P capabilities to FireFox and is due out “soon”. According to the U.K.-based company’s site, AllPeers is “a free extension which combines the strength of Firefox and the efficiency of BitTorrent to transform your favorite browser into a media sharing powerhouse.”
AllPeers Media Center seems less about pure file-sharing and more about sharing your media with friends and family, without having to send emails with attachments back and forth. As described further on the website:
AllPeers MediaCenter is designed specifically for … you guessed it, sharing your media! Files are received instantly and are displayed in beautifully laid out albums of convenient thumbnail images. Browsing through new files, or finding old ones, is a breeze. We guarantee you’ll never want to go back to email. Source: AllPeers.com
We Say: There’s been discussion throughout the blogosphere about the P2P nature of the software, legality, and even possible harm to the reputation of the Mozilla Foundation. AllPeers has addressed this in an entry in their own blog, but I still have to wonder how this is going to be received. Speaking of Firefox extensions, even when this comes out my favorite extension is going to remain IE Tab … for those times when you absolutely, positively must use IE.
