“AJChat” Ajax-Based Chat Service for Blogs
By Alice Hill
RealTechNews
Not sure how this will work with WordPress until I hit “publish”, but there’s a new Ajax-based chat client you can paste right into your blog. It’s called AJChat and to add a chat to your blog, click on “Options” and pick “Share Chat” from the “Tools” section. Paste the code in your blog and voila - instant 2-way communication.
Correction: I read that this was a Google app but further investigation showed no such connection. But we have been having fun chatting here and it’s a great tool. Give it a try. –Alice
UPDATE #2: I had to kill the chat box. Although people found it fun, AJChat made a code change last night that forced a login box every time you came to this page - which was beyond annoying. So, to see the product for yourself, please visit their site and try it out. It was fun while it lasted but the forced login was a no-go in my book. –Alice

Hmmmmm, since you included the ajchat, refreshing your main page has been very slow…. I noticed it around the time you originally posted it and I had trouble loading realtechnews.com. I finally got back to checking what’s new and it took some time to load. When I hit the refresh button (Firefox 1.07) it takes about 8-10 seconds to complete….
FYI.

Is this really a Google product? Why isn’t there any Google branding on it? Why is the domain name registered to someone in Singapore?

That’s what I wondered and nothing showed it was a Google app so I posted a correction. Weird.

Not sure a live chat client was the best idea for the main post. I now have a nagging login window… ;o)
mayhap a screen cap and a link?

Thanks CJK - I killed the chat window when I saw the login box. Weird becasue it was not doing that yesterday. Sorry for the hassle.

No worries - but I had the window open over night, and it really confuzed it when they pushed the new code, and I still had it up with the old! I had to kill the browser window and start fresh before I got the login to quit nagging! ;o)

It’s on my blog, in my latest entry. Rather than risk the annoyance of a forced login, I forced the code into the second page. Looks cool, but I see my DSL router’s and hub’s LEDs flashing like crazy, and I don’t think I’m downloading anything. Seems to be in a constant poll. Also, it doesn’t seem to indicate entrances and exits. Someone who last sent a message almost 90 mins ago still seems to be in there. I’ll continue playing with this awhile.

The “forced login screen” was due to server maintenence… rather the hosting giving us problems by banning 2 of our scripts. So we had to block everyone for a moment while we figured things out.
