Move Over Piggy Bank: Today’s Kid Saves Cash in Their Own ATM

It’s almost embarassing to recall that as a child I was given many a porcine shaped biggy bank, with a big old coin slot to learn the art of saving money. What I wouldn’t have given for the more modern children’s ATM you see here today. True, they’re almost $30 but the biggest difference is that you can take money out and you don’t need to smash it with a hammer to get to your loot.

The ATM bank for kids accepts real bills and coins, dispenses cash, keeps a total of savings, has PIN number access and your child can even make deposits or withdrawls. A must-have if you want to teach your kids about handling money.

Hey, my kid’s already got an ATM. It’s name is dad. You just take money out whenever. Why bother with an empty box for $30? You know, nothing would ever go in.

I like the concept of this gift, as I have a few younger siblings. Though, I think sitting down and working with kids about how money works, would be more beneficial than handing them this toy.

    :-/ — still cool, though.

[…] We Say: The children’s ATM was another recent attempt to get kids familar with cash, but this goes right to the heart of saving vs. spending. While not a bad idea in theory, I don’t know if watching your Bank of Life man die as you saunter off to school each day is the way to fiscal responsibility or a just chance to watch a little digital image waste away.
