Sony Debuts New “Skype killer” VOIP Platform called IVE

Sony is facing a world of backlash and I have to say it was all I could do to download and try this software today. After all, it’s my job to take a look under the hood of new technologies and proucts, but the rootkit business rattled me. Luckily, this product seems to be rootkit free and very focused on video conferencing. Bottom Line: If you can bear another chat/phone client in your life, the IVE (Instant Video Everywhere) software from Sony is worth a download.

Low-end QoS-unaware VoIP seems to be all the rage these days. Google Talk is also supposed to be another “Skype killer.” I suspect that very soon, we’ll all need a Trillian-like application to handle our 6+ VMS (Voice Messaging Systems).
Sony is taunting Video-over-IP, which adds another piece to the puzzle, but with the Internet users I know, I’m not sure that visual interaction is a big plus. :~)

Interesting… But what will I get in addition? No, no Sony for me, thanks.
