Even Smaller iPod Shuffle on the Way?

By Sean Fisher

It seems with Apple, the rumor mill is constantly running. This week, the rumblings seem to be geared towards the “little brother” in the iPod family: the Shuffle. If these rumors are on target, Apple would keep the existing memory and pricing structure for the Shuffle line, but would change the look.

An American Technology Research analyst claims that they have heard that Apple may be working on an even smaller form factor for the iPod shuffle as well as a introduction of a choice of colors. Source: Mac Rumors

We Say: As much as I love tiny gadgets, I tend to love functionality even more. Whereas miniaturizing MP3 players can sometimes be more trouble than they are worth (too easy to lose/buttons way too small for thumbs), there is never a problem with adding more memory . I would much rather see the Shuffle go to 1GB and 2GB (from the current 512MB and 1GB) than see a millimeter or two cut off.

I dunno … Apple has been pretty consistent with minimizing the form factor in the iPods, but I really don’t see them making the Shuffle smaller.

Shrinking it to Nano thickness would shave off .06″ (1.5mm) … hardly noticeable.
Shrinking the width would hinder operation.
Shrinking the length could be feasable but would (IMO) defeat Apple’s sexy design tendencies.

    Rumor indeed…

Tiny Ipods They are Perfect for the Summertime - when any little weight added to your hot body is frustrating

They are perfect to put in that small change pocket of your jeans - or to place in the shirt pocket.

It is good to have a small one just for your few favorite songs
