Oakley’s Thump2 MP3 Playing Sunglasses

Tired of all of the wires on your iPod or MP3 player? Hate having to deal with carrying your iPod in your hand or somehow strapped to your body? Check out this gadget from Oakley, MP3 playing sunglasses called Thump and now Thump 2. They look pretty cool, but are pretty pricey, the 256MB Thump is $299, while the 512MB version is $349, and the Thump 2 goes all the way up to 1GB for a whopping $449! You can get a killer iPod for that kind of money, but the iPod comes with wires and you have to carry it somehow, so you definitely pay for the convenience.
We had a quick look at a prototype, which was rather interesting–it is not much heavier than a normal pair of sunglasses, and the controls (on the top of the ear) are pretty easy to use. The headphones are ear bud types with an adjustable stem that connects to the frame, and they fit pretty comfortably in the ear, and can also be flipped up out of the way if someone actually wants to talk to you while you’re wearing them.
Oakley claims a play time of up to six hours from the built-in Lithium Ion rechargeable battery, which recharges through the USB 2 port. Source: PCWorld.com
We Say: I would love to be able to try them out for myself, the gentleman on the PC World site says they are not bulky, but a guy with a cranium as big as the one I have has to check out all sunglasses before buying. I think this is one of those wait and see items, if it catches on, then the price will go down, so, I think I’ll pass right now, unless someone from Oakley wants to send me a pair, for review purposes ofcourse.

Just an FYI, in ESPN magazine’s big story on Ichiro this year, there was a full-sized page of him wearing these glasses. From what I understood, he was a tester for the Oakley shades.

Can you say cool? Who needs an iPod when you can walk around with a pair of these on? According to PCWorld, which got to check out a prototype of Oakley’s new Thump and Thump2 MP3-player sunglasses, they’re actually

Hey Jimmy:
I work with Oakley and would be happy to send you a pair to check out. I too have a HUGE head so feel your pain on finding sunglasses (and hats for that matter). I had eight wisdom teeth, no joke, but that is another story. Maybe we should start a support group for people with big heads. Seriously though, email me if you want me to send you a pair to check out.
