Ultimate Gift: Guitar Hero for the Playstation 2

UPDATE: I bought this game last weekend and today can no longer feel anything in my left fingers - this game is SO addictive and if you are a parent, it not only is a nice break from the violence of most video games, it even teaches you and your kids some music fundamentals. This is THE best game/gift I have seen this holiday season - everyone I show it to gets obsessed and I am even talking non-gamers. You cannot go wrong with this one. $70.00

Guitar Hero combines addictive game play with some of the greatest rock songs of all-time and lets gamers experience the thrill and excitement of being a rock star without leaving home! By pressing down on the fret buttons of a specially designed guitar controller, gamers play notes and chords by strumming in time on a “strum bar” representing the strings of an electric guitar. Guitar Hero features hits spanning all the facets of rock music, from classic rock to metal including tracks made famous by such legendary artists as Boston, Red Hot Chili Peppers, David Bowie, Sum 41, Ozzy Osbourne, Audioslave, White Zombie, Franz Ferdinand and The Ramones. I want to get this. I’ve been playing guitar off and on for a few years, but I’ve never really gotten that good. Fingering chords with my left hand isn’t my problem (like I thought it would be), my problem is with keeping the right rythem while I’m playing.
I’m thinking that since this game’s main focus is the strumming rythem and timing maybe I could use it as a tool to improve my playing. I could get good at a certain song in the game, then get the guitar tab for it and play it on my real guitar. I would already have the strumming pattern down so I all I would have to do is learn the tab. Hopefully after a while my skill would get to the point that I would no longer need to play a song on “Guitar Hero” before I could play it for real.

This game rocks, Its definetly a must for all music lovers. Although the guitar looks a tad bit childish, it definetly is fun to play around with in game. The soundtrack is awesome, even if thats the only thing thats drawing you to the game.

I completely agree. I haven’t been this addicted to a game since I got Pong for the 2600 (ok, there have been a few others, but they were FPS games).

This game is quite simply awesome. I just hope that they come out with a pack-on disc that has more songs. I’d love to have some ACDC, Dueling Banjos, Eric Clapton, etc.

    Ultimate game fantasy from Harmonix:

A series of 5 games in the vein of Guitar Hero…. one each for multiple instruments and vocalists…. Guitar, Vocals(karaoke), Keyboard, Drums. The 5th game would be a mix-em-up, “The Band” or something like, where you could use any combination of the instruments from the other game, including any two of each instrument. There would be primary and alternate tracks for each instrument. So you could get together and “play” with a band that had 1 vocalist, 2 guitars, keyboard and drums…. or two vocalists, 1 guitar and 2 keyboards…. or 1 vocalist and 2 drums…. whatever you like.

Even better if this came out on Xbox and included XBoxLive play and/or system link.

[…] This weekend I introduced yet another round of visiting friends to the addictive wonder that is Guitar Hero. (If only Harmonix had a rewards program like TiVo.) Turns out this is quite the week for Guitar Hero-themed announcements. […]
