Second Coming of the NES

My wife is not a big fan of current games. She remembers the days of the NES with affection. Show her Call of Duty 2 and she’ll scoff. Of course, some of this might be related to her obsession with Mario.
She might have another chance, with the “second coming” of the NES, from Messiah Entertainment.
According to the site, the console works with original accessories, although there are some games it does not work with. There is a compatibility list here … and most of the games that have been tested (736 out of 772 at the time of this writing) have a “Yes” next to them. Nicely (well, perhaps obviously), it has redesigned connectors to eliminate the connector design flaw the original NES had.
We Say: When I told my wife about this system, her eyes immediately opened wide and she started salivating, particularly when she noticed the “Yes” next to all the Mario games on the compatibility chart. Although you can still get NES units on eBay, I’m sure a lot of other people will have the same reaction. However, the only independent review available so far (at Vintage Computing) was not impressed. We’ll have to see what others have to say before making a final judgment.

Shane says:
It has been said that this new NES isn’t all that great. I was excited too and even posted it on Aeropause.
