Want to Cheat in World of Warcraft? Remember That Sony DRM …?

That didn’t take long, did it? The Sony DRM which has caused such a flap was discovered just this week, and already hackers have discovered another use for it … albeit a relatively harmless one.

World of Warcraft hackers have confirmed that the hiding capabilities of Sony BMG’s content protection software can make tools made for cheating in the online world impossible to detect. The software–deemed a “rootkit” by many security experts–is shipped with tens of thousands of the record company’s music titles.

Blizzard Entertainment, the maker of World of Warcraft, has created a controversial program that detects cheaters by scanning the processes that are running at the time the game is played. Called the Warden, the anti-cheating program cannot detect any files that are hidden with Sony BMG’s content protection, which only requires that the hacker add the prefix “$sys$” to file names. We Say: It’s somewhat unfortunate this is not a Sony game. It’s pretty harmless (well, unless you play WoW), but this is the sort of thing antivirus vendors were worried about … and it could be just the beginning.

    I’m sure the applications for exploiting this don’t stop at WoW either. It would make someone able to hide anything they wanted to for whatever reason they had. Way to go Sony :(

    I’ve never understood the cheating part myself, but what a piece of comedy. I’m sure Blizzard wants to smack Sony right upside the head now.

    I came in to make the same suggestion Mr. Rome made about Sony purposefully leaking this information. WoW is decimating the computer gaming world right now. I’m sure Sony would love to see WoW destroyed. Given the huge amount of money involved in WoW, I wouldn’t hesitate for a second to think that Sony did this on purpose. Except for the fact that such a thought would be admitting that Sony is a lot smarter and more capable than I suspect they truly are.

    interesting article, ive been trying to keep up with this but it died out a while ago, glad to know its still working :) i for one like this, i hate the warden, they went too far with it. hopefully this will force htem to create something else that isnt so …”big brother” ish.

    with that said, to clear up a few things:
    Nika: theres not many cheats for wow besides bots, if there are any other ones, there private, and you wont get them, especially by asking for help from a news article.
    Madshinator: read what i said to Nika
    Peggy: its impossible to play wow for free unless you play on private servers, google “wow private server” and u should find something. Its -impossible- to cheat blizz out of the monthly fee.

    ok lol why is it that those of you who hate the program are smart enough atleast to spell your sentences write and use good grammar but the so called “pro hackers” who are in my mind atleast supposed to be very very smart are so fucking dumb that they dont atleast post either an inteligent post or atleast one without spelling half it wrong and not sounding like their 6. just thought id point that out cause it amused me very much :)

    thats horrible isn’t it I think I read something about bad grammer higher up but wow that was just horrible there are words missing people need to calm down no one is winning a war here everyone has cheated at sometime or another if not a video games at something and there are always gunna be people who are going to if not for getting farther in the game but maybe just to see how far they can push it lol have fun its 4:00 in the morning for me and I have nothing better to do its been amusing

    Just a heads up, most of the hacks for sale are scams and loaded with viruses. If you really want to risk it there is always a torrent out there with whatever hack your looking for.

    Sorry to dissapoint you guys but there is no such thing as a Stat hack……the reson being is the data for your stats and weapons is in Blizzards Database..not your computer…..I mean it is Possible to hack it….but you would have to be EXTREMELY gifted to get to it……The best i can tell you is go to http://www.deathsoft.com/ and use that…sorry to dissapoint…
