It’s Alive: GoogleBase Now Online
By Alice Hill
RealTechNews
We reported earlier that Google was readying some sort of eBay/Craigslist killer that could potentially finish off classified ads you pay for, and other horrors yet to be imagined. What no one can tell is exactlyhow it’s going to shake out, but you can go and check it out yourself right now. GoogleBase is live. Over and out.
Google Base is Google’s database into which you can add all types of content. Google will host your content and make it searchable online for free.
Examples of items you can find in Google Base:
* Description of your party planning service
* Articles on current events from your website
* Listing of your used car for sale
* Database of protein structuresYou can describe any item you post with attributes, which will help people find it when they search Google Base. In fact, based on the relevance of your items, they may also be included in the main Google search index and other Google products like Froogle and Google Local.
At the time of writing this item, Google Base still suffers from some problems, such you are sometimes unable to pass the login page, although you are logged in. But I expect that this problem will get solved quickly. Source: Aviran’s Place

From the official Google blog…
You may have seen stories today reporting on a new product that we’re testing, and speculating about our plans. Here’s what’s really going on. We are testing a new way for content owners to submit their content to Google, which we hope will complement existing methods such as our web crawl and Google Sitemaps. We think it’s an exciting product, and we’ll let you know when there’s more news.

Stan,
Glad you found the website. It was originally named aliceandbill.com but unfortunately Bill and I parted ways over the direction/focus of the site, and it was eventually re-named RealTechNews to include more contributors, like the great guys and gals we have here now. If you want the whole story: http://www.realtechnews.com/about/Bill.htm
