Motorola Sues New Nortel CEO

Anyone remember the movie “The Gang That Couldn’t Shoot Straight?”. Well, it looks like Nortel is following the script what with its freshly-minted CEO, Mike Zafirovski, being sued by his employer, Motorola Inc. Apparently, “Mr. Z” has breached some employment agreements with Motorola, where he was president and COO before resigning last January. Motorola wants to stop Zafirovski from working at Nortel for two years to keep him from spilling the beans on the trade secrets. This could be a nuisance suite but there is no doubt Nortel looks bad….again.
We Say: Could it be that Nortel didn’t do its due diligence properly before it hired Zafirovski? While Motorola, Zafirovski and Nortel could soon come to an agreement to drop the lawsuit, Nortel has been embarassed once again. It makes you wonder whether there wasn’t some way Nortel and Motorola could have made a deal before Zafirovski was hired.
