Sony and SanDisk Partner to Form the Memory Stick Micro or M2

RealTechNews
OK - so Sony is trying to shake things up. We covered Sony potentially killing off the MiniDisc format yesterday but today Sony looks as though it is attempting an unusual hybrid in the memory card department- a SanDisk and Sony Memory Stick mash-up called the Memory Stick Micro or the hipper sounding “M2″. We say: Shouldn’t the real name have been the SanStick? Or does thats sound too much like a non-stick frying pan?
“Memory Stick Micro” media is approximately one-quarter the size of “Memory Stick PRO Duo” media, yet only about 1.2 mm thick. The media’s edges are slotted lengthwise to allow for more slim-line designed connectors to reduce space in host devices. As dual-voltage media, Memory Stick Micro supports devices operating at 3.3 volts and 1.8 volts. Memory Stick Micro is designed as an externally removable media with a controlled eject function to prevent users losing the media. Users will be able to insert Memory Stick Micro into an adapter for exchanging data to a Memory Stick PRO compatible product.” Source: DP Review

I guess past memory formats just weren’t suitable enough for swalling. This tiny thing should slide right on down.
