The Cinergy Hybrid T USB XS is the First USB Keychain TV Tuner

Today must be the day for USB devices, because I just found a company in Germany called TerraTec that has developed a tiny USB-based TV tuner that is truly portable and doesn’t require an add-in card to operate. It picks up over the air signals as well as cable broadcasts, comes with a remote control, offers Tivo-like time shifting and recording capability, and costs $200.

The device can either pick signals out of the air without the need for a cable connection or, or if you are at home you can go through the included cable adapter. I am not sure how many channels you will be able to pull in with the antenna, but I’m guessing the stronger the signals, the more you will get. Not only can you receive signals, but you can also record the TV in full MPEG2 support. In addition it will also support EPG, TimeShifting, Videotext, video import and CD/DVD recording. Our Take: This wins the coolness award hands down in the USB thumb drive category, but I’m not sure when I would use it. I guess I could attach a hotel cable TV feed to the tuner and record some shows, or pick up local channels while driving. So not sure, but cheers to TerraTec for this innovative little product.

Looks nice, but, terratec is a german company, so the question is: PAL or NTSC? Does it handle BOTH formats??
