The Million Dollar Homepage
Brian Berris
Contributing Writer, RealTechNews
WOW, this guy is a genius. He has setup a grid of 10×10 pixel squares and is auctioning them off as advertising space at a dollar a pixel. So each square costs $100. His goal is to make a million dollars by selling off each square. It just might be crazy enough to work. Just another reason to slap yourself on the forehead and scream “Why didn’t I think of that!”
“It was a muggy summer’s night late in August, the time around midnight, and there I was, lying on my bed with a notepad, brainstorming ideas to make money. I think I’m quite a creative person, so I wanted to come up with an idea that was unique and would hopefully capture people’s imagination, but with the whole purpose of making money. No point being shy about it! I think we brits can sometimes be too shy about money. Well bugger that, I DO NOT want to be a broke student!” Source: MillionDollarHomepage
Alice adds: This reminds me of a similar scheme my Uncle got for my Dad one birthday. You could buy a square inch of Tennessee and that officially entitled you to the title Tennessee Land Squire. I think they sell star names now too. So my question is….If we set up a grid here, would anyone want to buy a $50 square of RTN?!

Rob says:
Saw that via Digg. Really a brilliant idea. He’d already made $7,000 in two weeks, which is more than I’ve ever made in 2 months!

50 years ago, the Quaker Oats Company bought an acre or so of land in the Klondike, printed up deeds to one square inch, and gave them away free in cereal boxes. Millions were given away…it was a hugely successful promotion…people used to appear in the Yukon wanting to know where their inch was…I think it eventually reverted to the government….

There seems to be some competitors out there now:
http://www.milliondollarwebpage.com
and
http://www.millioneurohomepage.com
It would be neat if a “region race” errupted between the three sites. What is next? MillionYenHomePage? Or should that be BillionYenHomePage (or would that really be thay much)?

I started a site recently which sells pixels (http://www.250000.org), but also awards lucky advertisers. Similar to a lottery drawing. Currently I’m think of a way, where I can reward visitors. Any Ideas? If so email me at: info@250000.org

this one is the first i have seen that will post your pixel image after confirming your payment. I guess it is the New and Improved version. Wish politicians can come up with creative ways to erase the defecits.

I went across the web and found this very interesting site named itself Million Dollar Path Homepage. It has interesting logos with American dollar bills, this guy also having lucky prize draws, I might give it a try on buying the ads, since it looks decent, would keep on watching to seeing how it goes, have a look.
