Speakers that play digital streams of MP3s are a great choice for whole house audio systems. I haven't read the specs on these speakers yet, but individually addressable speakers, could be a great and fabulously cheap way to create a multizone whole house audio stereo system. Imagine, no special wireing, no infrared repeaters, no expensive multizone equipment, just a PC capable of delivering multiple streams of data. The quality of sound reproduction will be distributed, ie. left up to the speakers. This will also reduce teh cost of the central system. Ie. you would not need a $5000 multizone audio system.

I think they're great. Take them on holiday, business trip, quickly set up some music in the garden or when you're out camping. They just make your mp3 player more versatile.

I use portable speakers all the time to listen to audiobooks or music in rooms where there is no computer/desktop. Kitchen, hotel, my daughter uses them in her room where there is currently no PC, etc. I have great appreciation for their convenience.

Why? I've been looking for some speakers to take with me on trips so I can listen to music in the room while I'm working or relaxing. Usually all one has in a hotel room is a tinny little clock-radio. Size and weight are at a premium. But so is sound.

I am currently looking at buying these speakers but I have yet to find any that sound good. I want to be able play music in the dressing room of my son's hockey team. Last year I brought a boom box and played the music on CD but the kids would bang into the boom box and the CD would skip and by half way through the year the CD was a mess. It was also big to carry around.

I dont really like headphones, so i bought the altec lansing inmotion speakers for my ipod. They're great. The sound quality is ok, but they have plenty of volume, and charge my ipod. They fold up for use on a vacation, can run on AAs, and come with a nice case. Even when unfolded they take up vitually no space.

Sometimes you just don't feel like listening through headphones. Many times I'm working at a desk and (I don't like having music pumped directly into my ear canal anyway) having my MP3 player hooked up to these speakers is a nice compromise in being aware of my surroundings and still having the music in the background. This past Christmas I bought one of the JBL mini-ipod speakers for my son.

Thank you Vince for adding your 2 cents. I just want to know when you take them to the beach, are they loud enough to hear over a crowded beach? I'm just wondering.

I have purchased Creative's portable speakers, I use them in my back pack while me and my kiids are at the beach. I use them (mostly) when we go camping.

And I use them at work, easy to plug in and connect my mp3 player(zen micro of course)

Hope this helps, my only 2 cents

Create a great day!
