How to Make an Actual Sniper Rifle for the Classic Nintendo Game: Duck Hunt

By Alice Hill
RealTechNews

One of the first games I ever played was the console classic “Duck Hunt.” The Nintendo NES system I purchased came with a copy of Super Mario (I still LOVE that game) a copy of Duck Hunt and a bright orange gun.

One of the most popular stories we posted was the online version of Duck Hunt you can play anytime on the Web. Click Here.

But today we found some crazy DIY gamers who took apart the Duck Hunt gun and made a sniper rifle for even better gaming accuracy. What I wouldn’t give to play this on my big screen TV. Here’s the How-To from G4Tv via Make Blog. (PS: We love you Gizmodo!)

Click More below:

First you will need to pick up a few items:
3 original NES guns
1 Airsoft Super 9 rifle
1 piece of ¾ PVC pipe
1 556 Chip
2 100k-¼ volt resistors
1 Blank Circuit board (Or better yet read my article on how to make your own.)
2 Toggle Switches

If you look inside the original Zapper, you will notice an assembly with a metal cover and some wires running to it. We will need to cut away the cover and pull the connector off. This is the main assembly for our new light gun. Source: How-To from G4Tv via Make Blog

Damn they stole my idea. Four years ago there was a Duck Hunt tournament at school and I wanted to make a gun like this and show up in full hunting gear. Come on, it would have been funny. I wish I wasn’t so lazy, this could be me!

Why not a shot gun? That would have made more sence. Its like the fishing game I saw the other day where the rod & reel were upside down. You know that guy knew nothing about fishing. Of course if these guys were out hunting and fishing, like me, they probably wouldn’t know how to build a optical rifle…..or program a fishing game……to each his own.

and one more thing…..Anyone who’s ever been bird hunting knows you can’t hit a fast moving target with a scope….

okay if your going duck hunting (i used to own the game too loved the clay pigeons and that wacky dog) i believe you use a 10 gauge shotgun ive never duck hunted however i do pheasant hunt and other small game i use a 12 gauge shotgun for pheasant and a 22 for rabbits/squirells (however i did shoot a chipmunk once with my 12 cuz it was really pissing me off and i got trigger happy so ya theres my review
p.s. you dont shoot into the air with rifles you have to have some kind of backstop

Sweet. I’m going to have to bust out my old NES and play some Duck Hunt with the classic orange gun.

Hey SA_PCOddity your comment about the orange gun for the “old” NES being classic is Bullshit. The Original was grey and white and duck hunt was originally a separate cartrige not a 3 in 1 multi like you remember with the orange gun. I guess you don’t remember the robot or Gyromite and Stack-up back in 83′. Get your facts straight!!!

That’s true - I had the oroginal gun and it was grey and white. But mine came with Mario and Duck Hunt.

OTTOBISMARK you are a sad sad little man you probably sit at home in your bedroom listening to your mum telling you to turn down your queen lp while you categorise your porn collection and critisise other people for trivial things like the colour of a light gun for an out dated entertainment system. by the way i know my spelling is pants but i dont care. i can learn to spell you can’t learn to be normal.

That is pretty damn cool. They must have had to sight the scope and everything if they wanted to stand very far away with it.

i would buy that, so i could play games like silet scope. hurry up and make the version!

  19. jake says:

you dont need three guns, its a waste of money. i built one of these with one gun, i just made the wires to the light receiver longer and put it up at the end of the barrel, then make the controller wire longer so you can stand back a little farther. save yourself a ton of money

  21. C-Bone says:

I have 2 Nintendos, and I play Duck Hunt all the time. I always thought of doing something like that, but I never really thought it would work. That just goes to show you that whatever ideas you’ve made up and thought about doing, someone else is in the world somewhere thinking the same thing. That’s a hot ass project to make for Nintendo. You should explain how to make a 12 gauge (maybe a sawed-off or regular, it don’t matter)for the duck hunt game also, it’s way cooler. you think you could make me one? i’ll pay you!!!
