Advice You Can Use: Should You Buy or Lease a New Laptop?

Alice says: It’s back to school season and that means laptops, laptops, laptops. Even if you’ve been out of school, the temptation from all that marketing may make it too much to bear. (My new laptop is arriving today as we speak in fact.) Luckily, our resident buying expert Catherine Roseberry from About.com is on hand to walk us all through the pros and cons.

Companies and individuals moving to a mobile work life will require an assortment of mobile gear to make their work easier and to stay in touch while on the road. Probably the most important gadget they’ll need is a laptop computer.

Should they buy or lease new laptop computers? With how quickly technology changes, it may be wiser for companies to consider leasing laptops for their mobile workforce. I find that companies that are new to working in a mobile environment, leasing laptops give them a better opportunity to evaluate different laptop models and then they can make better informed decisions on what model suits their needs best.
