Self Serve Flower Kiosk
By Alice Hill
RealTechNews
Vending machines are going through a bit of a Renaissance. Unfortunately, they seem to be doing more outside the US than the boring and candy and soda variety we have here in the US, but I found another great idea tailored to men who usually buy flowers on the same day (ie: in the doghouse or forgot that anniversary!) and are embarrassed to use a floral store and write out cards, etc. The service is private, offers fresh flowers and can handle sending personal messages without the clerk smirking at you. Alice says: This one’s a winner, especially for busy people who need last minute services and prefer self-serve services.
Flowers All Hours, Lisa Hayden’s unique Floral eKiosk is a self automated flower delivery service and vending machine that provides access to fresh flowers 24 hours a day. The floral eKiosk is designed to fill a niche in a marketplace that is driven by impulse buying, with 95% of flower purchases for pick up or delivery happening on same day. The system also creates a non-intrusive environment where men in particular feel less embarrassed purchasing flowers and sending personal messages.
“Because the Floral eKiosk operates at a controlled temperature and flowers are protected from light, dehydration (caused from air conditioning) and ethylene gas (given off by cars and ripened fruit), flower shelf-life is increased by up to 3 times compared with arrangements purchased from most grocery stores, supermarkets or garage stations. The customer uses a touch screen interface to purchase flower arrangements directly from a machine or arrange to send an order anywhere world-wide.” Source: Gizmag
