Ever wanted to enjoy satellite television, satellite radio, or even satellite Internet, on your laptop? Well, it got a lot easier now that VBox Communications unveiled their new USB-S 2230, the next-generation of DVB-S satellite receivers.
The device connects to your computer via USB. Previous receivers required the installation of a PC card. The USB-S 2230 features integrated hardware acceleration for DVB (Digital Video Broadcasting) handling as well as a state-of-the-art integrated tuner and demodulator.
When used in conjunction with commercial applications such as ProgDVB or SesamTV, users can watch satellite television on their laptops, and even record and play programs. Source: VBox
Our Take: We can’t get one of these fast enough. We officially proclaim this the year of the satellite.

Neat, but note this is just the receiver. One still needs to connect a dish to this thing. Easy enough to do at home or on a camping trip. Not so easy in an airport terminal.

While a nice idea, to me it’s worthless. With my Sirius subscription, I can receive satellite radio via the web. When camping, I take my boom box / receiver out and point north/northwest. Wireless connections are almost everywhere nowaday, and for everything else, I’ll have my 50 dollar mp3 player.
