Late Night Confession: I Watched Cutlery Corner and Bought a Ton of “Tactical Folders”

By Alice Hill
RealTechNews

Not long ago we launched an ongoing feature called ‘Startling Technical Confessions” where you could admit that you still love OS/2 or whatever. But I have one that’s even worse.

I got obsessed with “Cutlery Corner” or the “Knife Show” as it was known before the founder Tom O’Dell split with a shopping network and launched his own thing. I can’t tell you how many nights I sat up with friends watching grown men hawking swords and penknives and my personal sucker category: “Tactical Folders.” (It must have been the name.)

Help Me!
So I admit it. I now own a bunch of Tactical Folders. So many (but not in the hundreds like some of their massive offers thank God) that I am willing to give out a few to the first five people who donate $25 to this site. If you’re up and reading this, you have a jump on the competition, and you’ll also know you helped support a struggling band of writers and did not blow three times that on sabers and knives. I’ll even sign the box.

So look to your right and find the PayPal link and the Amazon donation link and please make a donation. If you win, I’ll write you back and get your shipping address. And if you didn’t make the first five, please don’t think we won’t be as appreciative. We really need your support. Update: Only Two Left

Last up, while researching the Cutlery Corner, I found hundreds of sites where people confess their love for the show. Here are a few clips: (Click the More link below to read hilarious comments from fans of the show.)

—————–
“My God Boys, I’ve finally found the tribute site to the true Kings of Cutlery, Shaun and O’dell! It is unbelievable that some network executive never had enough insight to capitalize on the realization that these guys had a following that FAR surpassed peddling knives at 2am. Man I would pass up the best movie all week to hear O’dell booming: “SHAUN LET ME SAAAAY THIS AGAIN. THIS IS THEEEEE MOST UNNNNNNBELIEVABLE DEAL I HAVE EEEEEEVVVVVER SEEEN OFFFFERD ON THIS SET OF KNIVES! THIS KNIFE HAS A DIAMOND CUT LASER GUIDED PATTERN INLAYED ON A 4140 GRADE STAAAAAAAINNNNLESSSSS STEEEEEEEEL BLADE!!! GENUINE DUEL SIDED EBONY BONE HANDLE CRAFTED IN GERMANY AND SUPPORTED WITH DOUBLE REINFORCED BRASS SLIP PLATES AND FULL LENGTH SNAP RIVETS!!! hahahahaha I LOVED THESE GUYS!”
—————–
Greetings fellow fans of cutlery, y’see. My friends and I have been viewing the fantastic antics of one Tom O’Dell for over three months now, and we had basically just assumed that we were insane for loving it so much, but you have allayed our suspisions. We have made a practice of recording Tom and our commentary on a mp3 player, and have assembled a small collection. www.purevolume.com/cutlercorner We rotate clips and put new ones up there periodically when we get them. We were also plannin some designs for some shirt, if anyone would be interested email me gandalfthegray25801@yahoo.com , and i’ll explain the design, and if you would be interested we will be distributing them.

“THIS IS WITHOUT DOUBT A SWORD DEAL, THAT IS LITERALLY…… A SWORD DEAL TO BE RECKONED WITH!!!”
—————–
I think one of the great moments from the Tom O’Dell/Shawn Leflar era was when the two of them were selling one of those grab-bags where you don’t know what you’re getting (presumably 20 of the same knife). Anyway, Tom would asssure us that “Jerry in the back of the warehouse fills these orders, and he makes sure EVERY order goes out PACKED with VALLLL-YOOUUUU”
—————–
I walked into my living room to find my boyfriend watching this and said “what the hell are you watching” he said.. “Baby you GOTTA see this !”
2 minutes later I was laughing so hard I could not breath…some of our Fav lines…

“Frog gigger deer skinner !”

“I do belive thats gonna require a band-aid.”

“That un getcha ?…no (groan) not too bad….(more goaning)”..by the way we are dieing to get a copy of this show, its the one where the excalibur sword falls off the stand.

“Owww…sharp.”

But you guys have got me thinking about buying somethin real soon. Keep up the good work. I just wish I could get my sales people to be as spontaneous and funny as use guys. I got a big laugh out of the huge freaking fish lure.

I thought I was the only one who found this show addictive.I stay up past my bedtime watching and YES I bought 16 knives and a display case thrown in. What the hell I’m gonna do with them is the question. I love the Sunday Special featuring the Holy Bible plus knives value deal and who could not love the two tub o tiny knives in all colors for the kiddies. I been to county fairs, chicken fights and two tent revivals and never seen nothing like Tom O’dell and his antics. I’m still watching and have got others hooked too. Gotta go…don’t want to miss the next MAAJOOOOR DEAALL!

Classic show. You should enhance it by setting up a rotating wheel where To throws fixed blades at the chick with the killer fingernails

I do watch the show. I do order knifes.

Some are sharp and easy to use. Some are okay for the price. You should learn something about knife before you spend too much money.

  19. Brett says:

I’ve bought some of the big sets with a couple of hundred knives. Their prices are good…BUT, the shipping was $65 per case! So, the next time that you think that you’re getting a knife for a buck, you better add in the shipping cost first and then figure it out. But hey… I still watch the “Knife Show” and I get a kick outta them bumpkin brothers and they’re bastardized english!

Heck my wife looks at me when I watch that dam show and wonders what the hell I’m doing. Its like watching a car accident with shiny knives thown in. I keep thinking wheres the “machete madness collection”? It gonna come any second now! I live in the mountains so I can actually use some of the dam things.

Thier shipping costs are very high and I know they are making some of thier monies off shipping which aint right….but I still do order and cant stop watchin.

    February 16th, 2009 at 6:41 am

  24. Chris says:

I watch the show, and I’m a bit ashamed. I enjoy their enthusiasm, and can’t wait to see if they’re going to toss in some folders on the spinning glass turntable deal!

I bought twice from them, and found that their products actually aren’t that bad. I certainly wouldn’t pay their suggested retail price.

    Those guys crack me up.
