Ultimate Barbeque - HEMI- Powered 345 horsepower, 5.7-Liter V8 Grill

By Alice Hill
RealTechNews

No you are not dreaming - this is the ultimate Man’s grill. Short of adding in a jet engine, this has to be hands-down the most most Alpha, over the top grill there is. A sharp contrast to the “Man’s Purse” we featured here yesterday! And there’s still time to buld your own for prime grilling season this summer.

“Yes folks, this is a man’s barbecue. That’s Tim Kowalec firing up Chrysler Group’s one-of-a-kind HEMI-powered grill at an event to announce the top five finalists in the company’s “What Can You HEMI?” contest. Until the event, the HEMI engine was only found in Chrysler, Jeep or Dodge vehicles. With the power and torque of the 5.7-liter V-8 HEMI engine, the grill can cook 240 HEMI dogs in three minutes and is covered by more than 330 square feet of steel. The contest involved people sending in concepts for machines that could be powered by a 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine. Five of the best ideas became semi-finalists and Chrysler engineers then built working models of the concept machines.” Source: Gizmag

Well, I think it is lacking a critical componet. A beer cooler. I mean what with all that HP and cooking, you have to have something to cool you off.

Ultimate Barbeque - HEMI- Powered 345 horsepower, 5.7-Liter V8 Grill. This is the ultimate grill, short of adding in a jet engine. It can cook 240 hotdogs in 3 mins. This was all part of a “What can Hemi” contest. [via] Link.

I love the HEMI, too bad these new engines with the HEMI are not a real HEMI like the 426.

“That is the gayest #$%@ I’ve ever seen” comes to mind.

This is similar (but backwards) to taking a girble to the vet. There isn’t a point in either.

“Whupty do Basil”, you can cook 240 hotdogs in 3 minutes.

Odds are that if you think this is cool and have an “I want one of those” mentality, the odds are you dont have enough friends to eat even 1/8th of those hotdogs.

Then again, you might. People are attracted to stupid people with money.

Personally, I’ll stick with the 50 buck weber I can get at sams club.

Regardless of the cu. in size of the engine, the head design is hemispherical, so it is a Hemi. Even the Mitsubishi 2.6 in the Dodge/Plymouth trucks, the Starion eqiuv from Plymouth - the Conquest, the Challenger of 1983 and the Arrow of 1980, all had a Hemi - a Mitsu made 4 cyl - the largest peoduction 4 cyl made. Turbo charged & intercooled and/or new side-draft carbs/cam/headers - it was one little beast, with nearly 200hp stock 20 years ago.

    345 HP = 257KW
If one puts enough fuel in the engine to run for 1 hour, one will get 876,920 BTU from the cooker.
    This is a no-brainer, guys!

Thats awesome….. Hey (the one that said this was useless) it was a fricken contest Dude!!! They were just seeing what kind of creative imagination could come out of people. Of course not many people would have a grill like this….. Its just something they were able to build that could run off a engine… Its not like its going to be put into production…

Oh yeah you know Hemi’s suck….. wtf are you talking about….. So a 6.1L Hemi pushing out 425HP is not impressive or would you rather hear about the 7.0 426 HEMI cranking out 560HP with 600lb trq. Thats really damn good… I bet you cant even tell me why the call it a HEMI……And dont go looking it up online to make it look like you know…

  28. Cool Dude says:

    wtf does HEMI mean?

and omg its a freakin 6litre engine?? and all it makes is around 400bhp? American engine’s suck so much. The BMW M3 GTR has a 4litre engine and it produces a whopping 400bhp and its not even supercharged or turboed…its totally NA. Haha!! I wish america would get their heads outta their asses and actually realise that all the other countries out there have become way better than they think they still are.

  29. Cool Dude says:

I’m sure a lot of you will get really annoyed by my post but instead of getting angry at me, go and do some research and you’ll realise that American engines are so inefficient, especially since they’ve reached the year 2006 and still their engines guzzle fuel like a piece of shit. And they’re supercharged aswell and produce so little HP even though the engine is so freakin big. A 6 or 7litre engine these days are able to produce close to a 1000hp. Go and look it up on the net and you’ll realise that America is really falling behind in terms of technology…well technology that matters anyway, lol.

  30. farva514 says:

Hemi means that the combustion chambers are HEMI-spherical, which means that its like a half of a ball. thats where they get the name HEMI from.

COOLDUDE….. i dont know if you have read but the HEMI engines when all the cylinders are not in need they shut them down to 4 cylinders and when its needed its right their when you WHOMP on the gas and all 8 cylinders open back up again. Just the regular HEMI is pushing out 340bhp and its a Chrysler. the 6.1L HEMI is pushing out 425H.P. Both not supercharged. Then like i stated above. the 426 7.0L Hemi can push out 560HP with 600lbs of torque, thats PRETTY damn GOOD!! AND THEY ARE 4 DOOR SEDANS TYPICALLY!!! Now if you were to Turbo the 6.1L you can get over 600HP from what i hear and have seen in some video footage. Also take note that those 6 or 7 Litre engines that you are talking about come from the factory most of the time TURBOED. For example a Bentley can come from the Dealership Turboed already and you are paying 3-5 time more for that much more Horsepower.

The concept is fine as far as it went but with all that potential output, why, oh why, didn’t they just hook up the beer cooler to the electrical system, put a blade on the front to clear a space in the parking lot, and add a side fold down table and chair combination to take advantage of the heat during those Green Bay games?

Just sayin’ the concept ain’t complete.

  33. overkillphil says:

Hey foreign car guy, American V-8 engines produce alot of torque. The OHC engines you guys love so much produce HP on a dyno, but in the real world and open space of the US, torque is king.

We just don’t see a need to wind an engine out to 8000rpms when the race is over at 5000rpms on the street.

Take a look at the typical European engine torque rating vs. American engine and you will learn something.

That’s what separates those who simple read about engines from those who actually build and race them.
