Search Text of Books Using Google Print Beta

Google has launched the beta of it’s latest search tool, Google Print. Google Print allows users to search for books and magazines and allows them the option to either read the text, buy the book, or even search the contents of a book. Google of course respects copyright laws, so for most books and magazines you can only read a small portion of it. For books, articles, and magazines not under copyright you are free to read till your eyes hurt. I believe that this may be the start of something huge. Google will no doubt go all out on this tool, therefore I speculate that they may be building the most detailed database of press ever. Imagine having the largest library in the world with nearly every book, magazine, and article at your fingertips. The future is coming. Another great tool by Google.

Google Print — actually, the publisher gets to determine what percentage of the book a user can read per month.

“Although users will be able to search over 100% of each book, you can set how much of each book will be shown using the edit link above. For example, setting the Percent browsable to 20% will allow a user to view up to 20 pages of a 100 page book each month.”

Amazon.com is also doing this with their SITB (Seach In The Book) feature. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/catalog-guide/guide/-/506469/002-8892065-1420831
