Gadget of the Week: The Get Off The Phone Excuse Machine

UPDATE: I just ordered two of these as gifts, and the company dropped the price from $18 to $9.89. Hilarious. Try the sample sounds here.

We’ve all been there. Miles from home, trapped in an endless cell phone conversation with no way out. Luckily there’s a handy little gadget called the “Get Off the Phone Excuse Machine” that with the press of a button will send an array of interruptions to your call. Six sample sounds include: doorbell chime, crying baby, static interference, dinner call, siren, and crashing car. Price: About $10.

As the manufacturer claims:

When you’re finally ready to ram the phone where the sun don’t shine, simply press a button for the excuse of your choice:
* Door bell – Oh no, a ‘surprise guest’ has arrived – just as you were enjoying that fascinating conversation.
* Crying baby – Who would be cruel enough to keep you talking when your poor child is crying for you? (Don’t try this with the mother-in-law if you don’t actually have a baby – she might just catch on…)
* Static – Simple but effective; end a mobile call in a second.
* Chinese food – A knock and a call to say dinner has arrived. Can’t let the chop suey go cold can you?
* Siren – Ideal when you’re out on the road. “Oh no, I haven’t got my hands free on, got to go…”
* Crashing car – Okay, this one’s a bit extreme – but when all else fails…
Whether you want to get rid of a tactless friend or family member, or can’t stand any more persuasion to switch your gas supply, the ‘Get Off the Phone’ Excuse Machine will sort it.
