Massive Snickers and Mars Bar Candy Recall No Laughing Matter
“The company that makes the Mars and Snickers chocolate bars has revealed two people received hospital treatment after eating the confectionery. Masterfoods set up a hotline for consumers after receiving a letter last Friday warning some of its products had been contaminated.
“It has contacted more than 6,000 stores in a New South Wales-wide recall of the products and has taken out full-page press advertisements to alert consumers to the threat. The president Masterfoods Australia and New Zealand, Andy Weston-Webb, says a small number out of the thousands who have called the company’s hotline complained of illness.
“Nineteen people did call us about feeling ill for a whole variety of reasons - stomach ache, diarrhoea, head aches, vomiting - and two of those visited a hospital but they weren’t admitted and I am happy to say they’re now back at home,” Mr Weston-Webb said. We’re talking to them, we’ll stay in contact with them to make sure they’re feeling okay.”
Mr Weston-Webb says the threat received by the company was directed against a third party organisation and Sydney specifically but the products have been recalled across New South Wales as a precaution. Derek Webster from the Australian Vending Association says Mars Bar and Snicker products are being removed from NSW vending machines at a frantic pace.” Source: ABC News Online
