MASSIVE Side-by-Side Console Round-Up: Xbox 360 vs Playstation 3 vs. Nintendo Revolution
Nothing like a good side by side comparison to separate the men from the boys when it comes to the next gen gaming consoles. True, not much is known at this time, but then again, for anyone seriously mulling this over and hankering for a good solid spec mash up, you’ve come to the right place. In fact, we feel this is the longest, most massively detailed side-by-side ever built on the topic. Get ready when you hit the “more” link! “More” is an understatement.

For gaming, the revolution hands down. I won’t ever buy a PS3 because despite the volume of games produced for it very few have solid value (I am not a ’superfan’ for any particular games like Final Fantasy, but rather quality games). The games that generally do rock on PS end up on the xbox. The xbox will most likely be ripe for modding and turning into a full media center so I’ll wait until that scene has developed to get one of those, then use it for media and the occasional game that is too good to pass up.
Despite both xbox and PS2 being more powerful then the cube, where did the most beautiful game (read: Resident Evil 4, don’t try and argue this fact) end up? On the cube. This proves that despite the power, it’s taking years to really get the potential out of a system if you ever even succeed. I was at E3 and all the games for 360 looked just like they do now with a little better lighting and textures (it’ll be years before they master those beasts).
The Revolution on the otherhand, is being made for gamers, that want to play solid games. Zelda and mario games have always been pretty darn solid in quality, and there have been more than enough other great games to keep my attention (who needs 50 games when the 5 I have so man play hours and keep me coming back for more?). Innovation is a chance, but they’ve proven that much more often then not it wins out; it keeps games fresh.
I’m also not a big N fanboy, I never even owned an NES, just a Sega Master System. Sony needs a better rep because of high defective numbers for PS2s, and PSPs are far to fragile and dependant on no pixels dieing. Gameboys have always been great for being able to get knocked around, DS seems the same.

Sony doesn’t have a monopoly on terrible hardware, though — the original Game Boy Advance that launched with the Game Cube was also terrible. No backlight, easily breakable LCD, and lousy sound. It did get corrected later when the GBA SP same out, but Nintendo still refuses to admit to any problems with the original GBA even to this day.
However, Nintendo is a bit more conservative in terms of game hardware — they tend to not use the latest and greatest and instead sticks to “proven” technology. This allows them to not necessarily go in debt per console, as well as having it be more reliable and cheaper.
They are also the only “pure play” game console now, with no aspirations for becoming a general purpose computer down the road.

Um, how about the glaring omissions: the XB DVD drive is listed under “Storage”, yet the PS3 Blu-Ray drive is completely omitted?; none of the graphics specs that were released for the PS3; under “Memory” the 256 MB for PS3 is completely misleading; PS3 support for SD, MemoryStick, etc. omitted; XB faceplates mentioned, but not PS3 colors. WTF? Anyone else smell a pattern here?

Great chart very hard to do with allthe rumers and junk around. I would also like to point out that the game with the highest polygon count on the Gamcube, XBox, Playstation II is Star Wars Rebel Strike Rouge Squadron III on the Gamecube. It pushed over 13 million polygons which is over the gamcube’s rating of 12 million. It also means that the XBox came no where close to its 120 million poly gons. Sorry thisis long the chart was great. Thanks!

That has more to do with ease of programming than capability — out of the three consoles, the Revolution is the easiest for people to program, as the hardware is designed with ease of game programming in mind. The other two will probably have much better looking games 2-3 years down the road, once game programmers learns all the tricks for producing great looking games in the other two systems. Of course, one could argue that making a game console that requires programmers to take essentially the entire lifetime of the console to learn to take advatage of fully is a failure of sorts, but Sony’s Playstation 2 had that problem too, and look where they are now…

Sony and Microsoft slugging it out never been a Ninetendo fan. For me it is going to depend on compatability with the games I have now and the games that are released with each system when they debut. The xbox is the closest thing we will see from Microsoft as a home computer though.

1080p is heads and shoulders over 1080i even. It is just beautiful, if you have ever seen one. It is coming to North America by the end of 2005, or early 2006. 1080p just looks gorgeous with the right stuff displayed, and it’s often refered to as the “true HDTV.” Having the PS3 compatible with it is smart because I am very confident this format will take hold better than how the HD formats in NA (480p, 720p, 1080i) is turning out right now. It’s even clear when you view it up close if you see it on a good monitor. The tuners must be compatible though. Anyhow, Sony is pretty smart to ensure future-compatiblity.

Whats going to be the only factor for me is the games comeing out for each system. Ive seen a bunch i like for xbox and hardly any for Playstation. Elder scrolls # looks pretty damn good. Then all thats left to decide is…do i really want to pay to play my game online????? im already paying fr my microsoft computer conection. i mean wtf pay for a online. Playstation my not have the features in online but they sure dont make you pay.

I feel as though that will carry over into the next generation of consoles. I will not buy the REV, the only reason I have the GC is for the two StarWars games and ZELDA. For me personally there aren’t any good games in NIN line-up. HECK I play my N64 more often than GC. I predict the NIN Comp. failing in the next decade. Maybe I’m wrong, but XBOX and PS2/3 are where it’s at. The sky’s the limit!!! Maybe I’ll get the REV for it’s downloadable old games…. wait a minute I still have them all, nevermind.

Don’t get me wrong the Cube is a great system I had it, so I know it had some great games (tales Of Symphonia, Resident Evil 4) but compared to the Schmatics of the new systems I would get the PS3 for many resons one of those resons is the PS3 looks better from the schematics, it can hold up to 7 controlers, and it comes out after the 360 giving Sony time to upgrade there system(PS3)more also because if you seen pic’s of the new Revolution contoler it looks akward and difficult to use (It looks like a T.V remote), also it has a built in USB cable, while the 360 only has a built in port and with the revolution you can’t even play online. I now have an Xbox. Another reson I would get the PS3 is because it is back enginerd so you can play all PS2 and PS1 games, but I suggest people to wait about a year befor you buy the PS3 because it will give Sony to find and fix and bugs/problems with the system like they did with the PS2 and hopefully the price might have droped abit so it isn’t as expensive if you where to get it right away and then just have to return anyway because of bugs.

I think its a toss up. When PS2 came out, I bought it almost right away. Even with the problems it had (which mine had several) sony replaced it right away for me…good customer service. Xbox has always had the games that were a little more focused on the adult males, while sony has a wider spectrum of games for a wider spectrum of people. In the end, we end up haveing the same amount of game choices of titles we will actually play. In the end, I will definitely wait to see the reactions of those who bought it. The graphics and gameplay of the games that come out (but not the ones that come out right away) and ofcourse those few titles that come out for one system and not the other…HALO for example, which no one can ignore.
P.S. I sold my PS2 and bought an xbox with no regrets

But sense all the consoles have been released they have all been about the same in sales and reviews. Atleast until now. Now is the time that gamers and critics are really noticing the differences and why certain consoles are better than others. The PS3 Has the best graphics (though not by a large amount over 360) as well as blu ray technology which really pushed sony over the top in the next gen compitition the PS3 has the most potential with sixaxis controllers futuristic processors and amazing visuals. And not to mention it is the safest in terms of machine quality. Many 360s have broken due to “The Red Lights Of Death”. A common problem with the 360 problem that causes it to break and force you to spend months sending in your console and getting a new one. But then again sense when has Bill Gates and Microsoft made something that lasts more than a year?? The PS3 will last it is the future and critics have with out doubt prefered the playstation 3 over the other two consoles. It seems that the PS3 has really stepped into the spotlight and stole the competition for the second year in a row. However the 360 is not nearly as far behind as it was in the 2nd gen race. PS2 vs. Xbox vs. Gamecube where the only thing keeping Xbox in the race was, of course .. Halo. But Xbox is running out of ways to keep its console alive. Slowly the poplulation is switching to the PS3 after breaking their cheap 360. The price of the ps3 has also gone way down and is even cheaper than the 360. Especially considering that XBL is a pay for month deal, where as the PSN Network is constantly expanding and is completely FREE! No strings attached. The PS3 comes with online play free, something that really impressed buyers. Overall the competition is still relatively close, however the current standings are still as predicted…

Though the margins between the three have significantly shrunk. If 360 even wants to consider pulling ahead they need to find a new game to ride on now that halo is almost done with completely.
