Introducing the Dog-Powered Scooter
What better way to combine my favorite mode of transportation (the scooter) and man’s best friend, than the Dog-Powered scooter. Actually I feel bad for the dog, but it looks like some breeds might get into it, so who knows. Not being a dog owner, I will have to wait for the cat-pulled chariot I guess.
“This new dog scooter design is revolutionary and has many benefits. Particularly appropriate for urban use on bike paths & sidewalks. The human is in total control of the speed and direction of the scooter because the dog is harnessed inside of the frame and subject to its steering (90 deg. turns easy) and braking force. This also simplifies the animal’s “choices” and reduces the level of “training” required of the animal. Simply harness the dog and clip them into the frame and off you go. With just a few outings pulling the scooter the dog quickly learns when to slow (by feeling the braking) and which direction to turn by again “feeling” the side pull on the harness. Dogs love it because it takes little “effort” to pull the scooter and they get exercise next to their owner. The owners love it because they are exercising their pets with little effort on their part and getting a fun free ride! (yet will participate by kicking up hills) The harness connection insures that no downward loads are applied to the dog or scooter.
“The outrigger wheel and frame can attach to “approved” scooters in a few minutes with simple tools and can detach just as easily. Its made of powder-coated chrome-moly steel and is lite. The wheel is rugged and has sealed bearings and a wheel guard. The harness comes in a variety of sizes & is adjustable.
As in all dog powered sports only the responsible/caring/attentive owners need apply. Booties recommended for intense usage. 100 lb. max. difference between rider and dog. Recommended for young energetic dogs over 45 lbs.
“Price of the outrigger w/wheel is $240 + $30 shpg. Harness & wheel cover included.” Source: AOL Hometown. Thanks to RealTechNews reader Mike Worden for sending me this!

Great idea, for once maybe I’ll get something back from that lazy mutt, after all he’s fed, he’s got a roof over his head, and get’s taken to the vet. I mean what the hey, he pays no taxes, doesn’t cut grass, take out the trash, forget about his shoveling the snow from the drive or even picking up the dry cleaning,he’s worthless and don’t even think to ask him to watch the house while we’re out.

Don says:
My little Rat Terrier wouldn’t last 1 second with this rig. As a matter of fact, he would refuse to participate at all.
All things considered, I think the guy pictured should get off his dead A$$ and push the scooter himself. How hard could that be, anyway? I mean he is not living in Alaska and does not appear to be someone who needs to provide the power behind his transportation.
I am constantly amazed and mystified that this sort of thing exists and thrives in the American society.

However, a monstrous “downward load” must’ve been applied to the operator’s BRAIN at some point in time………….

I adopted a Rott-mix about 14 months ago. He’s young, neutered, healthy, and (if he doesn’t get enough exercise) reactive to other dogs. I don’t know WHAT is included in the ‘mix’ part of his genetics, but he’s 75 pounds of lean and FAST.
Obedience training will only go so far to controlling him.
Agility training will only go so far towards “enough exercise” for him.
Running isn’t an option because he’s TOO FAST for my short little legs to keep up with.
Right now, the only way to wear him out is to have him run next to my car for 30 minutes at 15 mph. NOT SAFE!
I plan on getting one of these scooters on payday.
After all, a GOOD DOG is a TIRED DOG and an “exercise dependent” dog really needs to be good.

Oznog says:
It’s not cruel at all for certain working breeds.
Huskies and malamutes LOVE to run. They love to pull. Dog sledders don’t have to ask a dog twice to pull a sled, in fact they have to tie the darn thing down to keep them from taking off with it prematurely and once they start it’s hard to convince them to stop. Working dogs get crazy if they’re not run periodically.
Yeah I would also worry what happens to the dog if you flip the scooter over. Well, one thing that comes to mind is that it’s probably only the weight of the scooter itself. Since you don’t sit on it, if you crash you and the scooter are likely headed in different directions.

My dog would love this (4yo alsation)
Unfortunately I can’t run with her as she likes to run FAST!
Currently my only way to give her enough exercise is to strap her lead to my bicycle and take her for a 30 minute run up some steep hills. And even then she’s ready for more after a short rest.
Whenever she sees me get the pushy, she goes nana.

I have an American Pit Bull Terrier and an American Bulldog (both working breeds). I would be very surprised to learn that the folks who think this would somehow be cruel have ever actually owned a high energy, high drive, high strength pure breed working dog. I would buy this in a heartbeat if I could afford it, and both of my dogs would absolutely love it.

Seems like an amazing products. I have two huskies and we rollerblade with them but it is extremely dangerous for myself and the dogs. They often chase squirrels and other dogs and no matter how trained they are (even sled dogs) will forget training for a good chase. This product seems like it will make this problem less of an issue. I am looking into this product and I am really hoping this will be right for my two high energy working dogs!

This actually looks very interesting. My 70 lbs Lab may really enjoy this, he has so much energy an hour of running is nothen to him 15 min. of rest an hes ready to go agian. I of course couldnt run for an hour to save my life. So this just maybe the ticket he gets exercise and I dont die. I think I might keep my 15 lbs. Rat Terrier on the leash tho.
