PCs Cubed So you want form and function, huh? Find yourself a microATX motherboard that can be stuffed with the fastest processor in the known universe and then stick that in your Aria. Yes, the odd name series goes on at Antec as it adds yet another case to its line. But this one is cute. Yes, I said cute --at least as cute as a multi-hued cube can be. Now let's be real. Technically you should be able to carry this thing around, or so they hint. Anyone who's experienced a Macintosh in a backpack knows better. In the real world, it's a nice piece of furniture hiding your deepest geek desires. And that's what you really want, admit it. # Permalink

New Software Detects Plagiarized Passages According to Associated Press Online, "Oakland, Calif.-based iParadigms started in 1996 with a computer program to help researchers at the University of California, Berkeley inspect undergraduates' papers. Today, its Turnitin plagiarism-detector is used by about 2,500 high schools and colleges in the United States and 1,000 more abroad. It launched a commercial version, iThenticate, in January.
"Last year, one publisher turned to iParadigms when it investigated and subsequently affirmed rumors that an accomplished textbook author had plagiarized other sources. Sworn to secrecy, iParadigms president John Barrie said he watched in disbelief as the publisher quietly revised later editions, leaving the author's reputation intact."
One thing you know no one wants to copy is the awful names they use for their software.

64-bit Windows Tired of running two-bit operating systems on your 64-bit capable CPU? Why not try 64-bit Windows? What you're going to find is that this version is much more empowered than previous iterations. Translation: All those motherboard drivers you had to load from a separate disk? Fuggedaboutit. Windows XP64 seems to have all of them already available. You may also find that some of your software won't load correctly --or at all-- unless its from Microsoft. And you really should have at least 1GB of memory.
Of course, this is an evaluation copy that will expire over time --and probably get more friendly, hopefully. Remember, however, it took a gigantic amount of carping and complaining to get Microsoft to modify its idea of how its Windows XP Media Center version should work. Maybe it would be best to download the software and start beating the company up now rather than after the fact... # Permalink
