Makes you wish they would just say, “this is why we did it,” doesn’t it? People are still wondering why Google used a UFO-ish logo on their site on Saturday, Sept. 5th.
While the theory that the logo change had something to do with the first Exeter UFO festival sounded good to me, there’s another theory making the rounds that might be more accurate.
On Friday, prior to the logo unveiling, Google tweeted:
1.12.12 25.15.21.18 15 1.18.5 2.5.12.15.14.7 20.15 21.19 http://twitpic.com/giyxf
Translate numbers to letters and you get “All your O are belong to us.”
This is reminiscent of the old, poorly translated game Zero Wing which, it turns out, was released on Sept. 5th, 1989.
In the opening cutscene (below), Cats, the villain, says:
“All your base are belong to us.”
While probably a better theory for the “mystery” than the vague UFO festival in Exeter, it’s still pretty vague. Perhaps, “the truth is (still) out there,” somewhere.
