Where’s the Editor-in-Chief been? Basically, our baby is teething; I have been inundated with other stuff, and all that has led to a less than favorable ability to post. I’m trying to get back on track. That said …

On Monday, TomTom released a GPS application for the iPhone, priced at $99 for the U.S. version, which seems a little high when you consider it doesn’t include any hardware. It doesn’t even include the mounting kit. With the mounting kit, the total is rumored to be around $194.

Of course, the mounting kit adds a nice way to both mount and charge your iPhone, and it contains a faster, more accurate GPS chip than the one in the iPhone.

UK site Recombu downloaded the app and took it for a test drive (video below). The site liked the app, but because there’s not background processing on the iPhone, guess what happens when you receive a call? Yep, the TomTom app pauses, which means you’d better get off the phone quickly if you’re in uncharted territory and don’t want to get lost.
