This design is straight from the future, don’t you think? And yet Igarashi Design has unveiled an innovative single-seat helicopter you can buy and fly someday soon. (No word on pricing) The catch? you can’t have an instructor on board to help you fly it, so you need to take flight lessons first and then take it up solo when you are ready.
We say: What could

It looks really nice, I’m just hoping it’s not too expensive

This is just a pipe dream/art. First, see how close the tail rotor is to the ground? You’re going to chew into something landing anyplace other than on a hard surface – which defeats the whole purpose of having the ultimate recreational vehicle.
Second, the diameter of the main rotor. Judging by the apparent size of the “cockpit”, I think the rotor is about 16ft in diameter, Using the disk loading of the aircraft I fly, about 5lbs of weight per square foot of disk area, that would render this design with a gross weight of about 1000lbs. That’s not much. That would include the pilot. Heavier disk loadings result in a higher autorotational descent speed, making things bad if the engine quits. Smaller helicopters would want something on the order of 2.5-3.5lbs per sq ft.
Also notice, it looks like the pilot’s head sticks up through some of the fuselage. How would you like your head surrounded by something like that in a crash? Decapitation comes to mind.
I know you’re danger junkie, but just go on down to the airport and get yourself a lesson in a real helicopter.
Good points Ron-Powell. I saw how your head sticks out (must be very noisy+ cold) and the very low rear support near the back rotor. Seems scary to me, but there was a design for a dual rotor system that did away with with the rear rotor and made flying a copter almost fool-proof. Let me look into what happened with that one, because this design with dual rotors could be interesting.
Guess that means I am still a danger junkie!
I seen a small single person helicopter going down the highway once on the back of a truck but it did not look like that!
Are those suppose to be headlights on the front? If so, they look about 2 feet wide. Does a persons head stick out the hole in the top, just under the rotars?
it doesn’t look very porportional or realistic.
It’s more like a helicopter suit
There goes another of my pipe dreams. It looked cool in a pic though. Thanks Alice.
