Anyone who rides on two wheels instead of four knows the dangers of being invisible on the road. Here’s an innovative cycling vest that shows the rider’s speed in real-time.
The complete system consists of a wheel speed sensor mounted on the bike, the numerical display and the open source computing platform Arduino which is doing the speed calculation and display control. the power comes from a 9 volt battery for the Arduino and one AA battery for the display, both running for 6 hours on one set of battery.

Kind of an interesting idea. I’m not sure if it wouldn’t be more useful to just have flashing lights. I’d be tempted to verify the speed by pacing the rider. But it would be very cool for bike races.
Erik, good idea about applying the tech to bike racing.
