Might I say finally? With that much wealth, I would have been gone a long time ago. On the other hand, it’s not a retirement. In 2008, Bill Gates will leave his positions as Chief Software Architect and chairman to focus his attention on the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Microsoft CTO Ray Ozzie will take over Gates’ role as Chief Software Architect starting immediately. “Over the next two years, Ray and I will work side by side to ensure a smooth transition,” Gates said. “Over time, he’ll take on the central role for architectual leadership at Microsoft.’

Gates reitered that he is not retiring from the software business, calling the change a re-ordering of priorities. “With greath wealth comes great responsibility,” he said. “A responsibility to give back to society.” Source: BetaNews

We Say: It’s the end of an era, and all I’ll say is … Bill, if you’re going to paraphrase someone, pick something that won’t make me think of Stan Lee. :-)
