So the Windows Hardware team has released their version of the Xbox 360 controller, which actually just happens to be a normal wired 360 controller with a Windows XP installation disc in different packaging. I managed to get my hands on one to give it a once over, and took a bunch of images of the controller along with a few screen captures of the setup process. As the Windows “version” of the controller costs $5 USD more than the standard Xbox version, I wanted to capture exactly what it was that warranted the price hike. As it turns out, the only addition happens to be the installation disc. Not sure if that is worth the extra five bones, but that is the price you pay if you want an Xbox 360 controller before launch. Out of curiosity, has anyone tried plugging the controller in without installing the software first??
Yup – Windows needed the driver. I also tried using a USB-to-Xbox attachment and tested it on the current generation Xbox. No dice.
Microsoft mentioned that you’d be able to use X-Box 360 controllers with a downloadable driver. So surely its worth poking round to find it. Although I guess it might not be available until XBOX release.

i cant get this controller to work with counter strike if anyone knows how please let me know
I purhased and installed this controller two days ago, only to find out that it doesn’t work with some of my favorite games.
Sure, it’s a nice controller and everything, but it’s not worth buying it until there’s better support for it, as well as some sort of tweaking software.
Does anyone know if there is a way to get the wireless contoller to work on a PC? I am surprised there are no articles out about how to do this. What happened to all the hard core moders? They all to busy playing perfect dark?
I downloaded the driver from this website http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouseandkeyboard/Download.mspx , but my xbox controller is still not working properly and when I go to the Game Controller Icon in the control panel and try to “Add” the controller, it says “Gameport or Gameport Drivers are not configured properly, please consult with the Device Manager” how do i find the Device Manager on my computer?
I also get “Gameport or Gameport Drivers are not configured properly” very, and I do mean very Annoying.
Is there some sort of set up to where you can assign certain controller buttons for certain tasks? I can’t find that anywhere.
