When you were a little kid, were you concerned about where you would end up if you dug a very deep straight infinite hole on Earth? More than likely it’s not China at the very bottom of that sandbox. In fact, I would recommend bringing a life-jacket. Here is a cool Google Map application to answer that question.
Where would you end up? Pick a starting point and see where you end up. Very cool! source: Uber-Review via CNET

Uhh…this is a cool little applet, but it doesn’t ACTUALLY show the “digging straight down” result. It seems to show the result of what would happen if you dug PARALLEL TO THE EARTH’S AXIS. (I live in North Carolina and ended up off the coast of Chile instead of drowning in the middle of the Indian Ocean!) My six-year-old’s toy globe helped me figure it out.
(Yes, I have too much time on my hands, apparently.)
Um, actually it does work, and I put in north carolina and indeed came out in the indian ocean. Not sure how you ended up with that reult
Well, I wouldn’t rule out operator error! (Either that or some strange variation in the laws of physics in my back yard. Nah–probably operator error.)
Doh! I tried it again this evening and I did, indeed, drown in the correct ocean. I take it all back.
The only part of the US I was able to strike land was hawaii which ended up in Botswana
