Samsung's 82-inch LCD HDTV
Samsung is showing off this incredible 82-inch LCD Television at CeBIT this week. That means that 500,000+ people will be drooling and sighing over this bright and incredible HDTV beauty, and now you can drool and sigh along with them from home.

For those keeping score, the currect record is also from Samsung, who showed off a 102 inch monster at CES in January, but the 82-inch model will go into actual production in about 18 months. Samsung claims to be at least one year ahead of the competition. Sigh.

and the application for an 82", god only knows how expensive, LCD screen is...to display large images of lettuce, tomatoes, and cucmbers.

Just a matter of time till these become truly modular instead of "one big TFT sheet". The trick is integrating the edges. Once the modular format is perfected the display size (and MTBF) become academic.

I don't see these becoming a standard - I see these as "proof of concept" that there exists a market for the larger screen. The real bucks will come from the modular array. There is no aspect of the computing / telecommunications /entertainment industry that that won't benefit from massive modularity.

Consider wrap-around movie theaters that put Imax and Cinerama to shame...and, with digital compositing the cinerama technical issues disappear. We have THX - why not surround video?

Make the Whiteboard go the way of the blackboard for corporate and academic settings.

Consider modular wall treatments in public and private spaces - the applications are endless and we wait for the implementation.

Whoever comes up with this implementation is a tech company to invest in.
