Nintendo's Wireless Gaming Plans Unveiled

What's wrong with this picture? Nintendo President Satoru Iwata is happily playing against other programmers at the Game Developers Show held this past week in the SF Bay Area. He's using the new Nintendo Revolution that features built in WiFi support, and for the first time - backwards compatibility with older Nintendo games. (Don't even get me started on the stupidity of making each Nintendo console incompatible with the stack of games everyone owned on the last platform.)

Alice Says: The problem? In the photo he's playing Mario Cart- a game that came out in 1999 I believe. And that spells out the danger of gaming platforms. Lose your edge and your developers move on to other programming pastures. Of course, Sony is stalled out like one of those little Mario carts with confusion over its cell processor and a shakeup in management, so the game certainly isn't over for Nintendo.

Ah, but Mario Cart is a classic. I used to love that game. In fact, I've still got it for my Super Nintendo. I still drag it out every once in a while...

I know. I love Mario Cart too (and Duke Nukem 3D), but it's not exactly cutting edge when you're showing off a new platform.

You've got a point there ;)

They're not using the Revolution in the pic, it appears to be the Nintendo DS, their latest handheld, which also has wireless capability. I believe they're due to unveil revolution at E3 in May.

Mario Kart (with a K) is a great game ;) While it's not cutting edge, i'd kill for a few franchise games like Zelda on Revolution.

The original Mario Kart came out in 1992 for the super nes followed by Mario Kart 64 in 1997 for nintendo 64, then the current Mario Kart Double Dash in 2003.

What can i say? I own them all...they're one of the games that's playable by all ages and seems to appeal equally to men and women.
