New Trend Alert: Olivelink's Innovative Person-to-Person Video Software

This one has me up and tinkering on a Saturday morning, so that's a good sign. Olivelink (still in beta) is an innovative new type of software that lets you show home videos to friends and family without burning DVDs and mailing them out, or compressing a clip into something grainy but small enough to email. Anyone who has used Picassa and the innovative Hello photo sharing program that send snaps to friends quickly without email knows how great these rapid-delivery P2P solutions are. All you need is a high speed connection and anyone can tap into movies as long as 10 hours without lag or poor quality. And since you're not emailing a massive file or burning a disc, you can simply leave your home videos on a "projector" for your family to view whenever they like.

Here's more info from Olivelink:

"Forget tiny video images and poor picture quality. Olivelink software automatically encodes your video to provide your viewers with the highest quality picture and sound possible. Even better, because the video streams directly from your computer, there's no limit to the size or length of the video! Olivelink lets you determine who sees your broadcasts and gives you advanced control over your video quality and bandwidth usage.

* Limit your viewership to 1 or 1 million. No one can see your broadcast without you providing the "Projector name"
* Olivelink reports let you see who viewed your broadcast and when
* Advanced encoding lets you provide as high or low quality video/audio as you want
* Bandwidth controls let you determine how much of your broadband connection you use for broadcast."

Of course, the proof is in the pudding. I just got a copy of the beta and will try and test it out. Stay tuned....meanwhile, you can still try and sign up for a free beta copy yourself. Send me your projector name if you have a working video clip we can share with the group - and nothing sick or dirty please.
