New TomTom Rider GPS Device for Motorcycles
Saw this on GadgetryBlog and started salivating. In many ways finding your way around on a bike is much harder than via automobile, because you can't really whip out a map or grab a paper in your pocket with the directions while wearing big gloves. The TomTom RIDER is the first ever GPS device specifically for motorcycles and scooters.
Here's more info:
"Encased in a weather-proof case, it fixes to 'any' motorbike or scooter and features an easy-to-use touch screen that has been designed to work even with gloves, as well as an anti-glare and integrated sun-visor that ensures the best view of the screen possible. It's also portable so you can put it in your bag and take it with you when you're not on your motorcycle or scooter. TomTom RIDER also provides up to 5 hours use, thanks to its built in Lithium-ion battery.
"TomTom RIDER includes detailed maps on pre-installed memory cards and offers spoken instructions that provide turn-by-turn voice instructions in your choice of 30 languages. The supplied headset fits in a helmet and works wirelessly via Bluetooth. It also provides door-to-door navigation to any location in their country or region, as well as find their way to any town in Europe using TomTom's Major Roads of Europe map.
"You can also choose your preferred route type, for example avoiding motorways, as well as shortest and fastest routes, and access the TomTom PLUS information services through a suitable Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. TomTom PLUS is a bundle of services that provide real time information on traffic congestions and weather conditions and extra downloads such as detailed city maps, additional voices, points of interest and much more. TomTom RIDER will be available from Summer 2005. Pricing is not yet determined." Source: GadgetryBlog
My only question: isn't using a headset a bad idea?
