We always thought it was Google that got all the crude imitators, but this week Old Jeeves is getting a little nudge from his new pal Jolene. Ask Jolene is a new adult search engine, similar to Booble. I didn't link directly to the sites to protect those young or maybe old enough to know better, but I am sure you can do the rest yourself. Have a great weekend!
Alice is Clytemnestra and Bill is but poor Agamemnon - knowing that Alice will have his head as he returns from a hard day at work.
So, the number one answer is A SEARCH ENGINE for PORN?
Come on, the amount of pr0n on the web now exceeds grains of sand on all of the beaches on all of the seas on the planet!
What we need is a search engine that identifies the folks who produce the stuff and debits their bank accounts $0.0001 per pr0n image we are tired of seeing.
Real TECH? Finding porn on the Internet requires some skill? A new pr0n search engine is WORTH the electrons you sacrificed?
This ad makes it really clear that there must be some quid pro quo - Alice and Bill, good solid porn purveyors. Does this pay more than the Google ads deal?
I think it is time to report this porn-friendly site to Dr. James Dobson & Focus on the Family. Jerry Fallwell, John (put a bra on that walking liberty) Ashcroft and the right-to-lifers.
Better walk before you have to run!
Love and kisses, Cassandra - Todd's sister with a bet that you will be linking to candy-flavored tobacco-product within the month.
Huh? We cover technology and we also cover companies that try and spoof mainstream tech services/companies like Google. There was Booble and Gizoogle (covered here before) and now there's Ask Jolene. We don't get paid for that, our Google ads certainly don't point to adult services (and Google will not even work with adult content), and we certainly don't make this a regular thing, but when a company tries to piggy back onto an exisiting serice and brand, we find it interesting to see if theyget slapped with a lawsuit and what happens.
Don't let him get to you Alice. Anon/Todd obviously tries to make up for his insecurities by tearing down others. Every post I have seen from him is a rambling mess that never makes a point. Maybe one day he will realize that tearing down others doesn't build him up. Build yourself up by developing a personality and a by communicating intellegently with others, Todd.
I love how these Holy'er than Thou types don't have the guts to post using a real user name. I guess they don't want to give people the chance to respond in kind. Rich
Hey, there, Rich- A&B could turn off anonymous posts.
They have elected not to do so.
They solicit comments - other Blogs do not - again their choice.
They claim to be tech-savvy writers, yet they tried to "game" the Google Ads system. A&B can claim to be tech-savvy, but they can't claim to be innocent when they "game" (a/k/a breach a contract with the intent of defrauding Google) if they are tech-savvy because reading the EULA or TOS is a part of being tech-savvy.
Where A&B publish material that is very one-sided (and, if they publish something one-sided with facts to support their selection then good on them) that misstates the competition or the facts of the review then we (the Blog readers) have the option of calling them on it. See, e.g. the Mac PVR review.
Where A&B put a porn search engine up as a "realtech" topic - then they will catch heck for the lame post. Tell me that you (or, anybody) has trouble finding porn online? Is this really a tech review or is it a way to collect revenue?
After the Google Ads debacle, the "gaming for revenue" question will always be the first one that comes to my mind. A&B are the dog that has taken the "one bite" and they are responsible for their deeds and actions.
Further, Bill has stopped inserting Rushisms - a choice that I applaud. If A&B want to publish "real tech" news then they must do away with the things that bring the veracity of their blog into question.
This has everything to do with integrity and nothing to do with a "holier than thou" view.
Now, Bob - where you say that you want a name / email address "to respond in kind" - I take that as a thinly veiled threat of hostility - anything from spam to DDOS or even a personal attack.
Bob, why not list your address, phone number, SSN & DOB? "I guess [you] don't want to give people the chance to respond in kind."
I think the problem people are having with you, Cassandra-Todd, is that you don't seem to be able to disagree without being a [short for Richard].
It is news from the tech world. Of course it isn't technical or impressive, but you're in for a world of dissapointment if you think everything written on any site is going to be.
You found it interesting enough to read. In fact, I'd be surprised if you haven't already checked the site out.
My best guess is that you're just an attention whore waiting to for the opportunity to feel important by belittling others that some look up to.
Bill and Alice-
Though not exciting news, thanks for adding a bit more color to my day. Straight tech headlines can get dull and are better found elsewhere. I come here for your take on the whole bit and appreciate the opnions and observations. Sorry for feeding your troll. I can't resist slipping a dog a few table scraps either.

Communicating intellegently with others requires that you be able to read and comprehend what is being said. I said nothing about Addresses, phone#, DOB, etc... You clearly have problems in the comprehension area.
BTW, Did you know that A&B have gone their separate ways? I didn't think you did.
Rambling, negative comments don't necessarily make you look like a genius. The effect is quite the opposite.
I don't mind that you didn't like the posting, although I don't see the connection with Google ads. I also know you can't please everyone with every topic - that's just the way publishing goes. I do try and fine tune the site's content -it's so easy to veer into too much iPod, or get too wacky with USB devices shaped like Hello Kitty, or too legal covering the endless lawsuits. So I try and do a blend. It felt like for a friday "Ask Jolene" was funny and ceryainly nothing to get all worked up about.
And yes, we do accept annonymous comments, but I think that most people learn quickly that not using your name is needlessly secretive and unfriendly for the gang of regulars who like to comment here. No one wants your SSN or home address, but why not name yourself? Beats being Todd.
The last I heard, as in last week (Eweek, Cnet, etc.), "search tech" was just that--tech. I guess some people just find anything with the word "porn" in it offensive (and using cutie little idioms like pr0n makes you just oh so more "with it"). Me? I don't care; it's just one more little tidbit of info from an interesting site.
As far as Alice and Bill going "their separate ways"... Hey, who cares. Unless you have a personal or professional relationship with one or both of them, it ain't none of your business and totally irrelevant (but that Alice, though, she is a cutie! ;-)
Now, do I have a point? Yeah... Don't be an ass. Be accepting of others. Play nice. Live and let live. (got lots of other platitudes here, but you get my drift by now, right?) So, if you can't be constructive, then just move along folks.
Thanks, Alice. Thanks, Bill... wherever you are. Thanks for your comments and all that goes with it. Have a good week!
As a long-time subscriber to CS and a reader of A&B's column, I feel that "it ain't none of your business and totally irrelevant" is a ridiculous comment. It is very relavent to those who have invested time reading the Hard Edge for years and their separation matters a great deal to some of us.
