TiVo To Go Primer
The danger in rolling something exciting out a tad too early is angering the hardcore enthusiast. Case in point: TiVo To Go. I was in heaven when the announcement came that I could transfer the files from my TiVo to my PC and build a massive media library or burn DVDs of my favorite shows. So I signed up, and waited, and waited, and waited.
Finally, after almost giving up, the new firmware was downloaded to my TiVo on night and I eagerly copied over my first movie. Sure enough, the movie shows up on my hard drive, but guess what? The sepciall access code I am supposed to use is not recognized by the software. I am trapped. For those struggling, here is a great primer on TTG.
"What is Tivo To Go and what is this web page?
Chances are, if you made it to this site you know what Tivo To Go is. Just in case you need a refresher, TTG is a service which allows you to extract television recordings from your networked Tivo device to your Windows XP PC for personal, noncommercial use. This web page isn't intended as a hardcore geek guide just a place get the average Tivo user pointed in the right direction by exposing some of our options, since our primary web resource is prohibiting these conversations. None of the products or methods listed on this page involve breaking Tivo's encryption nor do they describe the illegal distribution of video. This guide is intended to facilitate the personal, noncommercial viewing and archiving of television files that Tivo has recorded at your request."
