Science Intends to Tag All Life
Leave it to the Brits....

Scientists are to establish a giant catalogue of life - to, in effect, "barcode" every species on Earth, from tiny plankton to the mighty blue whale. Initial projects will focus on birds and fish, recording details in their genetic make-up that can be used to tell one life form from another. The initiative was launched in London at the International Conference for the Barcoding of Life. Researchers concede it will take many years to complete the task.
It's probably just me, but sometimes I think technology gets a litle full of itself and goes to far. Barcode my butt! Huh? Oh, dang....

Let me get this straight... they want to catalog all the life forms on the planet. To what end? so that we can identify animals we already know about???? Lets identify the identified.

goes to far.

goes too far.

This should really speed up checkout at the pet store.

It should also speed up the registration process after deer hunting.

Wait, DNR wardens with barcode scanners in their holsters?!?!. WTF

Hunters in Texas are upset because the animal abuse laws can have them arrested if they shoot a deer or boar. How would a bar code work here? Scan the deers butt then get a permit to shoot it?

JD, the scope on your rifle would read the boarcode and, if you've handed the warden a goodly enough number of bucks, your trigger won't lock.
