No Fans = Quiet = Well, It Ain't Pretty.

Zalman's "noiseless computing" TNN 500A computer case uses "heat pipes" and built-in heatsinks to eliminate the need for cooling fans. From the looks of it, however, this is hardcore industrial stuff. That may bring ecstacy to some, but I don't know if even I'm that far off the edge and under the table.

I am quite anal when it comes to pc noise. I've spent maybe $125 on a Nexus power supply and a couple of Panaflo fans. Those items along with some foam packaging material to insulate the case and a bungee cord to suspend my hard drive I had laying around the house I managed to make my pc pretty darn near silent. Or I could spend $1300 on Zalman's new case....and to think I probably wasted close to an hour on my mod's!

Eliminate noise via vibration through hard mounted hard drive. Suspend 3.5" drive in 5.25" bay. You can use industrial rubber bands or the elastic off your Fruit Of The Looms if you like. Put it under your desk! You'd leave a $1000 babe magnet at home under your desk on a Fri. night?

Ah, see here's the thing...I'm not in this to show off. If I bought a $1k case I'd still hide it out of sight where it's out of the way. I'd do that with a PowerMac G5 or with the ugliest computer available-and some might argue they're one and the same! ;).
