Still Waiting for TiVo to Go...
Ok, so yesterday I covered the joyous fact that TiVo-to-Go had finally cleared legal and technical hurdles and was available at last for all Series II owners, for free! I downloaded, I rejoiced and...I'm still waiting.
Turns our you need to request an expedited download to your TiVo box to get the new to-go software and even the rush order people have to wait close to 48 hours. (I will give the exact countdown as soon as I get mine.) Worst of all, if you are "Joe Consumer" and just download and install this program you are in for a world of mystery and disappointment. I had the wrong the codec, needed a utility from Microsoft that was blocked by SP2, and then when I got the everything loaded and paid for (at $19.95 for the codec and some program) it still didn't work because the file was not on my TiVo, AND it said the recommended codec would not work with Microsoft's media player 10 even though TiVo lists both as recommended software.
Guess I can only say, stay tuned....and that this is not going to fly with the average user. Or then again, maybe TiVo realized that the fearless early adopters will figure it all out no matter the hurdle, so who cares.....hmmmmm.
Is that smart? Or stuipd?
