Quake IV Screenshots
I have a soft spot for Quake. When we launched Gamecenter for CNET I called the early shots of the game "dark and gloomy" and was not a popular gal (believe me), but man oh man take a look at it now. The faces are razor sharp, the darkness is balanced, and the resolution is stunning.

Of course, you'll have to wait, but isn't that what gaming is all about? And someday, maybe even Bill's Lab of Doom will be the Lab of Quake? Nah.......

I don't think the darkness is balanced - it *still* looks too dark.

Maybe in the world of quake they'll have developed the flashlight attachment to weapons.

The graphics sure do look a lot better than they used to. I still don't get the appeal of the game.

Does anyone know how many people actually play Quake and Doom, and the average hours per day for both? For example, I use Skype and there's a stat bar that says something like "1,217,334 users online now" and "2,101,458,987 minutes served". Anything like that for the gaming world?

It's not as easy to do something like that for a game, because unlike Skype, there are countless servers for games...
Unreal Tournament 2004 has an online stats system which I think can do what you said.
Anyway, there are lots of people still playing games like Quake III which is pretty old

Yes, us pretty old guys do still play Quake III. (At least I'm pretty...)
