Pornography Gets a Domain Name
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (Icann) has given preliminary approval to two new addresses - .mobi (for mobile phones) and .jobs. But don't despair! Ten new names are under consideration, including a domain for pornography, an anti-spam domain as well as .post and .travel, for the postal and travel industries. No name is, as yet, suggested for the pornography domain and suggestions are not being requested.
In a related story, it's rumored that 3M is pushing for a domain name for Scotch Tape, -.stki, 7-Eleven for its beverage line, -.slrpi, and Smith & Wesson for its products -.bam. However, Emeril Lagasse may sue over the latter, claiming that the .post domain would easily cover Smith & Wesson.
